STUDENTS WE SERVE

Communities In Schools serves Columbus and Whitehall City Schools:

  • CIS staff works with 167 community organizations and businesses to link services directly into the schools.
  • CIS staff provides services to schools which serve 7,358 students. Whole school services include speakers for assemblies and career days, facilitating community resources fairs for students and their families, and incentives for accomplishments.
  • CIS staff provides direct service to 1,816 students and their families. These services include short-term counseling, group interventions, referrals to community resources, crisis intervention, mentoring, and assistance in acquiring health assistance.
  • CIS provides 778 students with after-school activities.
  • CIS staff brokered $474.271 in donations to schools including 375 backpacks; an ongoing donation of baked goods from Panera; fitness equipment for a high school; books and other educational material from McGraw-Hill, School Specialty and Highlights for Children.

Our Results:

  • 79% of schools CIS served improved their attendance rates or maintained state standard attendance (All elementary schools exceeded the 93% standard)
  • 92% of targeted students decreased their out-of-school suspensions or had no out-of-school suspensions
  • 72% of targeted students decreased their behavioral incidents
  • 90% of targeted students decreased their unexcused absences or had no unexcused absences
  • 85% of students reported that they feel better about themselves and their future after receiving services from CIS
